Protective Wards Hold Off Solicitors

Magical Sea Salt for Protection Spells

I watched, first hand, the protective wards on my home kick into action this weekend. The effect of the magic was so blatant that all I could do was stand and shake my head, laughing under my breath.

When I perform circle magic, I typically incorporate a bowl full of salt water for purification and protection, as well as to be a physical representative of the element of water, the West, and the manifestation of the emotional body. Once I close my circle at the end of a ritual, I either pour the salt water into a water-tight glass jar and store it for later use or I immediately use it for protection of home or propriety.

Several weeks ago I completed a circle ritual and decided to take the salt water outside to protect my home. I poured a line of water at the front and rear doors exclaiming that, “only those that have our best interest in mind may cross this line.” I walked around the rest of the house dipping my fingers into the bowl and sprinkling it around the foundation. Once I completed the circle around my house I realized I still had some water remaining. I briefly contemplated  walking the property line adding extra wards at the edge of the yard. Figuring that it would be hard to explain the neighbors exactly what I was doing, I decided instead to draw one final line at the base of the front gate. The gate is located halfway between the edge of my front property and my house. Gates are already a natural barrier, but unlike a fence or wall, they offer a place for people and energy to pass through.

I drew a line with the salt-infused magical water and announced that the line would serve to protect our house and inhabitants (included the pets and the people) and once again said, “only those that have our best interest in mind may cross this line.” I don’t want to keep out everyone. We welcome friends and family after all, not to mention the postal delivery man,  so I made sure to be specific.

I didn’t think about the protective wards much until Saturday morning. The Hubs and I had just woken up and were sitting in the living room enjoying our coffee. The Hubs got up to go to the kitchen when he noticed that there were religious solicitors at the gate. It had been at least a year since they had visited last. I had just woken up and wasn’t in the mood to spend half the morning repeating, “thanks but no thanks” to these men. My husband absolutely loathes solicitors of any type and usually makes me deal with them. This is usually the better option for all involved. He remains fairly polite when solicitors come, say their piece and leave. However, if they are at all pushy, the entire situation can quickly become regrettable for everyone. This is why I take care of them.

I let out a deep sigh and waited for the doorbell to ring. (Friends knock, solicitors always ring the bell). No sound came. I decided to investigate peaking from the window toward the gate. There they were, two men dressed in clean, pressed suits. Their heads were close together and they were closely inspecting the latch on the gate. One was holding the gate door while the other was fiddling with the latch. I tucked back out of sight, not wanting them to know for sure that I was home. The Hubs asked, “are they still there?” I confirmed that they were but hadn’t entered yet. “Maybe they’re afraid we have dogs. We should get a dog,” said The Hubs.

It occurred to me at that moment that I had placed the protective wards up weeks before. I could hardly contain my delight so I turned my head back toward the window so my husband wouldn’t question my expression. He wasn’t home the night I put the wards up and I worried that telling him about it would somehow decrease their effectiveness. When I looked again toward the gate, the men were gone.  A moment later I heard the neighbors dogs barking at the intruders and I knew for certain they had moved on. A couple of hours later The Hubs and I left the house to go on about our day. As usual, the latch on the gate released with little effort.

What amazed me most was not that he wards held off these intruders, but rather that they were able to cross the yard and walk up to the outer-most circle of protection. Their toes were literally at the line I had drawn. It was like a scene from a movie. An invisible force field of protection stood between us and these solicitors. While I don’t believe that their intentions were bad. Surely they just wanted to convert us and save our souls. The ward, however, was to keep out anyone who did not have our best interest in mind. These men obviously didn’t. It felt so empowering to see my magick manifest in such an obvious way. I said a quick prayer, thanking God for protecting our home and made a mental note to reinforce the wards when I had the chance.

Just as a side note… since I put the protective wards up, the postal delivery man hasn’t been coming up to door either. He has been leaving all deliveries at the gate. Oh well.
